Relapsing Polychondritis is an auto-immune condition where the bodies immune defenses are turned against its own cartilage. This leads to relapsing episodes of cartilage inflammation. Involved areas include the nose, ears, and heart valves, and blood vessels. Polychondritis is a debilitating condition that can be life-threatening (read more). The clinical course of Polychondritis is often unpredictable. Diagnosis is largely as there is no one specific test for confirming Polychondritis. Corticosteroids or other anti-inflammatory and immune suppression medications are often used for treatment. Stem cells are being studied for auto-immune conditions with on going research. According to the Journal of Rheumatology Supplements, “the opportunity to ablate (with autologous stem cells) severe autoimmune disease with increased safety is particularly attractive for necrotizing vasculitides, polymyositis/dermatomyositis, primary Sjögren’s syndrome, systemic juvenile arthritis, and relapsing Polychondritis.” (read more)
Relapsing Polychondritis and OC Regenerative Medicine
As part of the CELL SURGICAL NETWORK we offer a specific SVF deployment protocol that attempts to mitigate the effects of Relapsing Polychondritis. SVF (rich in mesenchymal stem cells and growth factors) has immuno-regulatory and anti-inflammatory properties which may be beneficial. SVF is deployed systemically as an outpatient at the time of SVF harvesting and procurement. The entire cellular surgical procedure takes approximately three hours.
