Lichen Sclerosis

Lichen Sclerosis is a skin condition most commonly seen in post-menopausal women. The skin turns shiny and smooth and spots grow into patches in the region of the genitals and anus. Skin may become thin leading to tears which may become scarred. Symptoms include, itching, pain, bleeding, blisters along with the color changes. What causes Lichen Sclerosis is not exactly known but auto-immune or hormonal aspects are implicated. Skin biopsy is used to confirm diagnosis. Diagnosis can be confirmed on skin biopsy. LS is not contagious but without treatment it can become cancerous. Traditional treatments are surgery and steroids although a number of alternatives have been utilized.

We offer a protocol developed by Dr. Lander using stromal vascular fraction (SVF). SVF is rich in adult stem cells and growth factors leading to immuno-modulatory and anti-inflammatory effects and therefore may be effective in healing the abnormal patches of skin associated with LS. The protocol also addresses the systemic component of LS by administration of intra-venous SVF in addition to local injections. AQ Skin Solutions (pure growth factors FDA approved as a cosmetic for topical application) applied topically provide additional growth factors and can work with the cell therapy and may be helpful in healing the LS skin lesions.
