An Investigational Approach to Treating Patients with Respiratory and Cardiac Disease

stem cell therapy respiratory cardiac diseaseResearch into stem cell therapy has progressed substantially over the past few years, leading to potential new therapies for a wide number of conditions. One recent medical breakthrough involved the ability to extract a form of adult stem cells called mesenchymal stem cells from patients’ own adipose tissue (body fat).

Adipose tissue contains stem cells in a concentration up to 2500 times that found in bone marrow, and this tissue is easier to access, requiring just a minor liposuction procedure that can be completed in a few minutes. Since mesenchymal stem cells are extracted from the patient’s own body, no embryonic or other foreign stem cells are utilized.

These mesenchymal stem cells are extracted in a component called stromal vascular fraction (SVF) that is also rich in growth factors. Doctors are currently studying the effects of deploying SVF containing mesenchymal stem cells to treat patients suffering from such cardiac and respiratory conditions as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung disease, along with some patients suffering from impaired cardiac function post-myocardial infarction (after a heart attack), congestive heart failure, and cardiomyopathy.

Dr. Michael Arata of OC Regenerative Medicine, in conjunction with Cell Surgical Network, is now offering investigational treatment with mesenchymal stem cells to select patients with Asthma, COPD, and other lung diseases along with some post-myocardial infarction patients.

The stem cell procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and takes approximately three hours, including extraction of the SVF from patients’ body fat (usually from the abdominal region), minimally processing the SVF and stem cells, then deploying the stem cells into the patients through methods including nebulization (inhaling), injection, and intravenous drip.

The staff at OC Regenerative Medicine must evaluate potential patients before they are accepted for treatment. When a patient is evaluated for treatment, it will be explained by the medical staff if they believe stem cell therapy may be beneficial for the patient.

If you would like more information on mesenchymal stem cell treatment please feel free to contact OC Regenerative Medicine through this web form or call (949) 247-8877.
